Fran Margar-Bacal obtained a Master’s of Science Applied degree in Communication Disorders at McGill University.
 

She worked for two years in Quebec then moved to Toronto and has since worked at The Hospital For Sick Children for 39 years as Speech-Language Pathologist, mostly as a member of The Cleft Palate and Craniofacial Teams, performing clinical assessment, treatment and management, conducting applied research, and providing supervisory teaching and training to local and international students and professionals.
 

Fran is a passionate supporter of family-centred and comprehensive care for children with cleft lip/palate and craniofacial anomalies, and over the years has participated in numerous outreach clinics for children with cleft lip/palate and craniofacial anomalies. She has participated in and made numerous professional presentations in her area of expertise both locally and internationally; has contributed to scholarly publications in peer-reviewed journals.
 

At present, she practices privately as a Speech and Language Pathologist, and continues to volunteer with Transforming Faces an organization involved in the support of professionals working with cleft lip and palate internationally and at a Sick Kids staffed outreach medical clinic for uninsured children.
